Component marking:
Definition and application

The marking of components is a necessary step in many branches of industry. It is used for the unique naming and identification of parts or groups. Further tasks of the marking can be a visible information transfer, traceability, plagiarism prevention or sorting, depending on the application. The marking can be done in different ways. Examples of this are barcodes, data matrix codes, QR codes, date stamps, serial numbers, company or test logos or engravings. Various methods, such as printing or laser engraving, are used to apply the marking. For more information, see Direct Part Marking.
